  • Thame Town produced a fine batting display when it mattered as they overcome Horspath by 3 wickets to beat the drop as Reading and Horspath went down. Going into the match any two of 5 teams could have been relegated and it was veteran Manoj Parmar (58*) who produced a master class of batting to ensure Thame secured the 25 points they required to beat the drop.
  • Horspath won the toss and elected to bat and made steady progress on a pitch that was playing better as the day went along when they reached 74 for 1 at lunch. After lunch Horspath tried to step on the accelerator but some tight bowling spells restricted the runs but a fine 104 not out from James Phillips who hit a 6 on the last ball of the innings to bring it up helped them battle to 202 for 6 off their 60 over's.
  • In reply Thame also made a steady start and were 74 for 2 but a couple of quick wickets left the game swinging Horspath way at 78 for 4. But a fine partnership between Bhatti (49) and Parmar kept Thame up with the scoring rate. When the game was drawing closer to an end it was Parmar who stepped on the gas hitting four 6's in quick succession as Thame came over the finish line with 5 balls to spare.
  • Thame Town secured the double over local rivals Aston Rowant with thrilling 16 run win in the last over of the match In their Home Counties league match. Losing the toss Thame were asked to bat and early signs were good as Captain Mike Higgs (33) and James Nielsen (23) got them off to a flyer 62 for the first wicket. Then when the above two were dismissed and the rain fell and the game was reduced to 53-43 over's.
  • Thame had to adjust the game plan and with the ball swinging around from Morrick (6-66) batting wasn't easy but sensible knocks from Thame youngster Beardle (24) and Bhatti (26) steered Thame to a respectable 159 for 8 off their 53 over's. In reply Aston Rowant started positively and at tea the game was well balanced at tea with the score 63 for 2. However, Thame knew one wicket could change the match and they eventually reduced Aston to 90 for 6 with Morrick dismissed. But opener Josh Smith (74) dug in and with him still at the crease the game was still alive, an inspired bowling change saw Pratik Patel (1-37) dismiss Smith with the score on 130-7.
  • For Aston the game was dead and buried and a fantastic spell of bowling from Bhatti (7-55) backed up by good catching saw Thame have Aston 143 for 9 with 1 over to go. But trying to get the number eleven off strike Aston attempted a single which was suicide and it handed Thame the 25 points with 3 balls remaining.
  • Thame came so close to upsetting league leaders Burnham on Saturday after a spirited fight back nearly saw Thame claim all 25 points.
  • Thame chose to bat first and began well but a few wickets at lunch left the game in the balance with Thame on 89 for 5 at lunch. Then after lunch Thame began to take control with J Bhatti (63) and M Parmar (37) steering Thame close to that 200 mark, however again Thame lost wickets at the wrong times and were reduced to 188 all out in the 60th over.
  • In reply decisions didn't go Thame's way and Rehman (98) capitalised to smash a quick 98 steering Burnham to 132 for 1. The game seemed dead and buried at tea but spirited comeback from Thame saw Burnham need 9 runs with two wickets remaining and with a draw never in sight it was Burnham who got over the finishing line to take all 25 points.
  • Thame Town ended up with a losing draw after having Dinton on the edge at 45-5. After Thame inserted Dinton it seemed a good decision after Lachlan took 4 early wickets to see Dinton reduced to 45 for 5. But a fine 107 not out from Ash Smith saw Dinton scrape to 180 for 9 off their 60 overs. In reply Thame didn't start great but good contributions from Parma and Patel saw Thame make steady progress but when the above were dismissed Thame decided to bat on for the draw ending up 127 for 7 off 53 overs.
  • New Cricket Nets Officially OpenedThe new Cricket Nets were officially opened on Friday 3rd June by the Lord Mayor of Thame, David Bretherton.
  • At an evening party including a BBQ, cricket games organised by Mark Watson and with the bar open a great evening was had by those attending.
  • After a short speech in which David Bretherton highlighted the previous 18 months of fund raising the tape was cut and all 3 of the new cricket net lanes were in action, whilst the bar continued its services for those of a more relaxed disposition.
  • Thame 1st team produced a fine display as they cashed in against Aston Rowant on Saturday.
  • Losing the toss and being asked to bat brought memories of two years ago when Thame were bowled out for 63 but it was a totally different story this time. Nielsen (25) and Higgs (51) navigated Wes Morricks opening spell by adding 75 for the first wicket. Then flurry of wickets reduced Thame to 110 for 5 just after lunch but a superb knock by Pratik Patel (75) who was supported by Parma (26) helped Thame to get to a well above average 246 all out in the 60th OVER.
  • In reply Rowant never got going as a good opening spell from Thame skipper Sam Lachlan and Jaydeep Bhatti helped dismissed Rowant for 159. Bhatti was the star who ended with 7 wickets to his name and Thame enjoyed a thoroughly deserved victory.
  • Thame town had a sea saw affair with Reading Saturday when they got a winning draw.
  • Thame elected to bat first and were instantly reduced to 10 for 3 then 40 for 4 before Lachlan (53) and Parma (44) steadied the ship. Then an explosive innings by Ed Barnett (41*) saw Thame reach 209 for 7.
  • In reply Thame got straight on top reducing them to 52 for 4. But an explosive knock from (number 6) who was supported by (number 3) saw Reading stay in the game and at some points take control. But good spells from Rooney, Beard and Bhatti helped Thame stay in charge as Reading closed shop in the last few over's and ended 200 for 8.
  • Thame were comfortably beaten in their opening game of the season by newly promoted Burnham. Thame won the toss and inserted Burnham who found things difficult early on but their batsmen were lucky with many shots going aerial but falling just short of fielders.
  • Good spells from Lachlan (2-43) and Rooney (2-25) helped reduce Burnham to 80 for 3 at lunch. But sensible batting from Khan (75) and Sarwar (69) in the middle over's helped steer Burnham to 216 for 9. In the last ten over's Burnham should have scored many more runs but the pitch was showing signs of variable bounce and began to turn sharply.
  • Burnham was aware of this and straight away opened the bowling with off spinner Khan (4-42) who was found very difficult to get away. An opening spell of 4-24 by veteran seamer Fazal destroyed Thame's top order and with Lot's of over's to go the draw was always a long way away and Thame crumbled to 90 all out off 34 over's.
  • Starting at 7.00pm with the first race at 7.30pm, please support the Club's Race Night at Thame Town Cricket Club. Entry for adults is £2, and £1 for under 16's with 8 races during the evening.

  • Michael BeardMichael Beard, has signed a 2 year professional contract with Gloucestershire County CC for 2011 and 2012. Michael who has been in the Gloucestershire Academy for several years made some promising performances playing for the Academy and the 2nd XI last season including a top score of 109 not out against Essex in a 2nd XI championship match.
  • His performances also gained him selection for the England U'17 Development XI where he was selected to play in one day Internationals against Scotland and Ireland, which unfortunately he missed out on due to injury. However gaining a professional contract has more than made up for this disappoint. Gloucestershire are also supportive of his academic aspirations and the contract will enable him to continue with his studies as he hopes to go to university next year.
  • Michael will be travelling to Australia on 3rd December, a cricket tour with Oxfordshire U19's, which is a fantastic achievement by the county and they will also get to see a test match during the tour.
  • TTCC recently held their annual awards night. First XI awards went to Pratik Patel for batting and Michael Higgs for Bowling. Second XI awards went to Stephen Beard for batting and Ian McStay for bowling. Third XI awards went to William Sutcliffe for batting and John Phippin for bowling. Club person of the year was a joint award to John and Jackie Phippin. The final award of the evening , the prestige’s John Fulkes award for outstanding junior player was presented to George Patey.

  • Thame had a disappointing end to their overall successful season as they went down by 8 wickets to local rival’s Dinton. Thame elected to bat on a good looking pitch and the still weakened team found no reply to Dinton opening bowlers Scott Bowler and Adam Mould who regularly dismissed Thame batsmen. Only Nilesh Patel could add some resistance as he added a few lusty blows to get Thame up to a mere 78 all out.
  • Dinton needed 12 points to confirm that they had avoided relegation but they made sure of all 25 with their excellent bowling display. In reply Dinton’s Ex-pro M Sutcliffe showed his class as he played some exquisite shots as Dinton reached the target for only 2 down.
  • Thame captain Sam Lachlan and his players tried to forget about this bad performance and look at what has been an overall successful season for Thame, after a top half finish with such a young and developing side.
  • Thame Town Cricket club staged their annual U13 6-a-side tournament on Sunday in memory of the late John Fulkes, who did so much for youth cricket in the county and nationally.
  • The tournament was competed by local teams including Thame, Aston Rowant, Horspath and Dinton. Aston Rowant and Dinton reached the final with Aston Rowant favourites having won all of their group matches.
  • Rowant batted first, and despite only losing 1 wicket were restricted to 45 for 1 due to some good bowling from Dinton, J Schmidt in particular only going for 4 runs in his over. O Gordon top scored for Rowant making 23. In reply Lindsey Smith bowled a tight opening over for Rowant going for 6 runs, then despite losing wickets Dinton managed to keep a head of the run rate winning the match with 4 balls to spare finishing on 46 for 4 to lift the trophy.
  • A fantastic first wicket stand of 121 between captain Sam Lachlan and vice-captain Michael Higgs set Thame up so they could their first win of the second half the season.
  • Thame have been struggling this second half with poor avaibilities due to holidays and injuries which has mainly affected their batting but when Gerrards Cross inserted Thame on a wet pitch the feeling was things wouldn’t get any better. But Sam Lachlan (71*) and Michael Higgs (61) batted with discipline and patience in the reduced over’s game due to playing conditions. Lachlan and Higgs put on 121 in 34 over’s while the pitch was still wet and drying out. When Higgs was bowled Manoj Parma came in and added some quick runs to get Thame up to a well above par 194 for 1 off their 51 allocated over’s.
  • In reply Gerrards cross had the better conditions for batting but overseas Jaydeep Bhatti’s 8 wicket spell proved to much for the cross as they were dismissed for 83 in 52 over’s.
  • Thame Town Cricket Club held their annual fun 6-a-side cricket tournament on Sunday 22nd August at Church Meadow. Seven teams competed for the trophy, including “Howzat”, Thame’s first all-female team.

Although the ladies didn’t win any of their matches, they put in some highly competitive performances and Jenny Alexander in particular showed some promising talent and was rightly named as player of the tournament. The ladies are keen to continue with more training and are looking forward to further matches next season.
  • In the final “Fast & Furious” played against “Six of the Best” “Six of the Best” batted first and made 49 from their allotted 5 overs, Adam Phippin top scoring with 28.

  • “Fast & Furious” won by 3 wickets, knocking the runs off with 5 balls to spare. Mark West top scoring with 12 not out.
  • New Nets Fund. The fund has been boosted by a £2,500 pledge from Oxfordshire Community Foundation and Thame Town Council has also given a £1,000 donation. Thame Town Cricket Club would like to thank both for their continued support.
  • Michael has been selected for the England Development U17 squad to play Ireland and Scotland Development XI’s in a triangular tournament at the National Cricket Performance Centre, Loughborough, from the 21st to 24th August 2010.
  • Thame travelled to Reading with a team missing five first team players due to a school cricket tour and holiday commitments. However, in the game with Reading who had just replaced them at the top of the Division 2 West table, their mixture of youngsters and experienced players had the best of the drawn game and nearly won it in the last over.
  • Put in to bat on a difficult wicket, Thame struggled to 59 for 5, but experienced batsman Manoj Parmar and youngster Charlie Beardall, who was making his first team debut, doubled the score and the visitors were finally all out in the last over for 170. Parmar made 48, Beardall 32 and Nilesh Patel 20. Best bowler for Reading was leg-spinner Hartley who took 6 for 60 in 18 overs.
  • In reply, Reading's batsmen started quickly with Steel in particular punishing short-pitched balls, but Thame started with spinner Bhatti and none of the Reading batsmen could get him away as wickets began to fall. Gumbs and Barr doubled the score from 49 for 5 to 98, before both were out.
  • The Thame bowlers Bhatti and Seetal Patel put in two excellent long and accurate spells and the match could have gone either way in the last six overs, before Bhatti took two quick wickets and Reading were left hanging on at 164 for 9 in the last over with the Thame fielders surrounding the bat. Bhatti took 6 for 55 in 25 overs and Patel 3 for 87 in 23.
  • Thame Town CC could not get back to winning ways this Saturday at Church Meadow after a losing draw to struggling Beaconsfield. Thame inserted Beaconsfield and opening bowlers Sam Laichen and Pratik Patel bowled tightly but with no luck and could not find any breakthroughs. Jaydeep Bhatti was then introduced and continued his good run of form taking 5 of the 6 wickets Thame took. Supported well by an economical spell from M Higgs helped keep Beaconsfield down a respectable 226 off their 60 over’s.
  • In reply Thame's openers P Patel and M Higgs got off to a flyer taking 55 off the first 9 overs, but when Higgs was caught and Patel removed just before tea Thame never really posed a threat to Beaconsfield total and settled for the draw.
  • Thame suffered their second defeat of the season to local rivals Dinton Saturday by 99 runs at Church Meadow. Dinton chose to bat and found life easy on the pitch until the introduction of Thame spinners Bhatti and Higgs. Dinton reached lunch at 100-1 off 33 over’s. However after lunch Bhatti and Higgs bowled well taking the next 9 wickets for just 90 runs. Bhatti ended up with 7-60 and Higgs supported well with 3-71. Marland 78 and Sutcliff 55 held Dinton’s innings together.
  • In reply Thame never really got going in the chase loosing wickets in clusters and were never really in the match. Gibbons took 5-31 as Thame were dismissed for a poor 92. Thame were outplayed and although losing, still manage to stay 26 points clear at the top of Division 2 West.
  • A superb 66 from Thame 1st Team veteran Manoj Parma along with his two stumpings and 3 catches set Thame up for a thrilling 2 wicket victory over Gerrards Cross in the final over who had been in second place before the start of the match.
  • Gerrards Cross won the toss and did not hesitate to bat first to make Thame field 60 over’s in the scorching heat. Thame took wickets at regular intervals but the pitch being so flat allowed Hughes (130) to smash the ball to all parts of the grounds hitting many maximums. His knock allowed Gerrards Cross to reach a very competitive 254 all out in the final over. Pick of Thames bowlers were Bhatti 3-77 and Higgs 4-90 who both found it hard to contain the Gerrards hitter on such a small ground and flat pitch.
  • In reply Thame saw off the threat of the new ball as Beard (50) and Wynd (48) kept Thame in contention with the asking rate. Then the stage was set for veteran Manoj Parma as the spinners were bowling, he came in and spread the field allowing Thame to get ahead of the scoring rate. However when Parma and Higgs seem to be cruising Thame to any easy victory but with Parma unlucky bowled and Higgs running himself out, the pressure was back on Thame. But the lower order got Thame comfortably over the line with 5 balls to spare extending Thames lead at the top of the table.
  • Thame 1st team were keen to consolidate their position at the top of the HCPCL Division 2 West with Farnham Royal the visitors at Church Meadow. Farnham have come down from Division 1 and have proved tough opposition in the past, although their recent record has not been good.
  • As it happened, they won the toss and surprisingly chose to bat despite the overnight rain which required the covers on the pitch. Thame were close to full strength and their tight fielding leant support to their opening bowlers. They soon applied the pressure and Farnham struggled against tight seam bowling from Sam Lachlan and Will Rooney. The visitors limped to 63 for 6 half way through their innings, with Thame skipper Sam Lachlan at one stage having figures of 3 for 3 off 8 overs. Farnham were eventually all out for 124 in the 55th over, with Lachlan taking 4 for 14 off 11 overs, Jaydeep Bhatti 2 for 26 off 15, and Michael Higgs 2 for 8 off 5.3 overs. None of the Farnham batsmen could get the Thame bowlers away, with Shaw top scoring on 26.
  • When Thame batted they didn't have it all their own way, as Farnham started keenly. Accurate bowling and a couple of excellent catches reduced the home side to 50 for 5. However Thame bat well down the order this season, and good knocks from Seetal Patel (24), Michael Higgs (26) and Manoj Parmar saw the home side through for the loss of 8 wickets. The experienced Parmar finished on 33 not out.
  • This was a hard won victory for Thame in a game where all batsmen had to work for their runs.
  • Thame 1st Team beat Reading having 192 set as a target by Reading. Good bowling from S Lachlan 4 - 28 and S Patel 4 - 30 restricted Reading to 191 - 9. Thame made steady progress with S Patel making 49 and M Beard 77 not out as Thame comfortably reached 193 - 4 to win.
  • Abingdon Vale vs Thame Town – Oxfordshire Cup 18 May 2010 Two of Thame’s young stars won this 20- over Cup game at Abingdon on Tuesday evening with a batting display of powerful and ruthless hitting. Batting first, Thame's Michael Beard hit 85 and Jaydeep Bhatti scored 58 to put the game well beyond the home side. Thame eventually scored 200 off their 20 overs, and when Abingdon batted, Seetal Patel bowled the dangerous Charlesworth for 2 early on. Only Boon (44) and Smook (41) managed to get any runs as captain Michael Higgs rotated the Thame bowlers. Sellwood, Jackson and Murray all kept the runs down with Will Rooney, Higgs and Patel each bowling tight and accurate spells.
  • Thame 1st Team contained Finchampstead to 157 all out with J Bhatti having excellent figures of 7 for 46 well supported by M Higgs with 3 for 35. In reply Thame achieved 158 for 6 well within the overs with top score of 54 from P Patel.
  • Thame 2nd Team struggled to a pitiful 68 all out with only D Brooks managing a creditable 31. Didcot easily achieved a quick total of 69 for the loss of just 2 wickets.
  • Thame 3rd Team travelled to West Wycombe to play Bledlow III and achieved 178 for 6 in their 45 overs with M Watson producing a superb 109 not out and batting right through the innings. In reply Bledlow suffered a regular flow of wickets and were finally all out for 144. A great result for a team with 7 lads from the youth teams who all contributed with some execellent fielding and good bowling - many experiencing a senior cricket match for the first time.
  • On a cold and damp day Beaconsfield won the toss and predictably asked Thame to bat. Michael Beard and Pratik Patel mastered the early pace and movement, but both were out before being able to build innings.
  • Thame have strengthened their batting this season, but began to struggle in the conditions, and at 86 for 7 looked in real trouble, but their experienced all-rounders with Jaydeep Bhatti to the fore started to accumulate the runs, and they reached 200 before Bhatti was last out for a big hitting 74.
  • When Beaconsfield batted, dangerous hitter Mahmood was brilliantly caught off a skier by keeper Manoj Parmar, running back to fine leg. The Beaconsfield wickets fell regularly to Thame's accurate bowling and sharp fielding, with only C Thomas (71) and P Gurnell (35) putting on significant scores. The away side came within one wicket of a victory their all-round teamplay and discipline deserved. Beaconsfield 10 points, Thame 15 points.

  • Rob Brooks decided this winter to stand down as Club Chairman, a role he has filled in an acting capacity for three years now, and the Club is grateful for all the work he has put in over this time. Rob has also stood down as First XI Captain as work and family commitments mean that he will be playing less cricket in 2010.

A Minor Counties and ex-England Schoolboy player, Rob has played over 14 years as a top batsman for the Club. He will be missed, and most of the team grudging admit that his slow bowling and occasional wicketkeeping will also be missed. His last game as Captain was the excellent home win against Basingstoke, the last game of the season which we had to win to stay up, so that was certainly a memorable way to end his spell as Captain! The good news is that Rob is keen to play a number of games this year and we look forward to these.
